Ioannis Karakikes, PhD, was appointed Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Karakikes received his PhD from the University of Essex (UK) and completed his postdoctoral training at the Cardiovascular Research Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. His research focuses on delineating the molecular mechanisms underling the pathogenesis of cardiomyopathies using patient-specific cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), and also the development of biological therapies for heart failure.
