ResearchNEW 12/14/07 CVI 2008 Intramural Seed Grants: Request for Proposals The Institute is an organizing center for all of Stanford's basic science, engineering, clinical research and clinical care related to cardiovascular health in adults and children. The Institue's broad perspective on heart disease is yielding exciting new research collaborations and and new integrative programs to meet the Institute's goals of identifying, quantifying and translating new knowledge into treatments to improve the health of patients suffering from diseases of the heart and vessel system. A second round of CVI seed grants in Feburary 2007 funded five interdisciplinary initiatives. Cardiovascular Institute awarded five seed grants in 2006. Stanford CVI investigators and those affiliated with the other Stanford Institutes of Translational Medicine mutually benefit through inter-Institute collaborations and sharing of core resources in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine; Immunology, Transplantation and Infection; Neurosciences; and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Stanford Cardiovascular Institute - Five Strategic AreasFive Strategic Areas constitute the Cardiovascular Institute’s research focus. The Institute is commited to significant programmatic and development effort in five key areas. Seeded with start-up funding from the Institute, faculty in each Strategic Area are engaged in programs that integrate basic science, clinical research and translation to clinical care. These multidisciplinary researchers represent a full-spectrum approach toward improving diagnosis, treatment, prevention and ultimately eliminating heart and vessel diseases.
