Cardiomyopathy Science at Stanford
A seminar series of research in progress
Colleagues,
We are delighted to announce an interdisciplinary seminar series at Tuesday lunchtimes (12-1pm) in the Falk Cardiovascular Research Building library (2nd floor). It began in Autumn Quarter, 2006.
The format is informal presentation of bench to bedside science. Presenters give a brief background, then present research ‘in progress’ for a general audience. The aim is not a packaged story “grand round” style, but a discursive presentation which represents the reality of doing science: some experiments work, some don’t. We ask speakers to talk for <30 minutes so there is plenty of time for questions and discussion. Although some presentations will be basic science and some will be clinical science, we strongly encourage all to come along, ask questions and learn. We hope the forum continues to provide speakers and labs with ideas for the future direction of their work.
We kick off each week with a “5 minute” journal club – one person will go against the clock armed with only a white board and marker to explain the most interesting new paper of the week in under 5 minutes.
We are delighted with the enthusiastic response to this concept of bringing together Stanford researchers from diverse divisions and departments who share a common interest in myocardial biology. Our program reflects this enthusiasm with speakers from pediatric and adult CV Medicine, CT surgery, Molecular Pharmacology, Immunology, and Pulmonary/Critical care in the first three months alone.
Please join us Tuesday lunchtimes and encourage all your students, technicians, post-docs and fellows to attend as well.
