About Us

"The Institute incorporates the most promising biomedical research taking place today with prevention and clinical care to improved treatment and outcomes for people with heart disease." -Robert C. Robbins, M.D.
Stanford Cardiovascular Institute is the nucleus for cardiovascular research at Stanford University . Formed in 2004, the Institute is home to:
a. Stanford's myriad cardiovascular-related adult and pediatric research, clinical, and educational programs, centers and laboratories
b. Over 380 Stanford-affiliated basic scientists, scholars, clinician scientists and other researchers in cardiovascular disease and prevention.
"We are in an era of unprecedented opportunities for translating knowledge to improve human health," says Institute director Robert C. Robbins, M.D. "The Institute encompasses some of the most promising biomedical research taking place today. We are building a comprehensive program that leads to more advanced treatments for people with heart disease."
Improvements in the cardiovascular health of patients and the general population arise from new research collaborations that translate scientific discoveries into practical clinical and public health applications. The Institute provides organizational structure to concentrate and coordinate the activities of scientists, engineers, educators, and physicians committed to improving the cardiovascular health of patients, and committed to educate and train the next generation of leaders in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine.
Singularly, the School of Medicine, Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital are located entirely on the Stanford University Silicon Valley campus, a co-location with Humanities and Sciences, Engineering and Business that enables a richly diverse mix of students, faculty and scientists to engage with each other in the SCVI's innovative interdisciplinary research and training programs.
